Capacity Ireland is a community-based training provider offering high-quality training and work experience that provides our learners and services users with learning and employment opportunities. We are now recruiting for Community Development positions in Seville, Spain.

We’re seeking graduates in animal behaviour, biology, botany, ecology, zoology or related fields to carry out a 13-week internship at a research institute in Seville.

This is a paid internship.
Flights and accommodation will be provided.
This is for a January 2020 start.

Company Description:

Doñana Biological Station is a public research institute belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, CSIC, within the area of Natural Resources. Their primary mission is to carry out multidisciplinary research at the highest level directed at understanding from an evolutionary point of view how biodiversity is generated how it is maintained and damaged, in addition to the consequences of its loss and the chances of their preservation and restoration.

Job Description:

There are three different research assistant jobs available in different projects:


The work will focus primarily on cows and horses, but could include also red and fallow deer. The work will combine field (setting and maintaining camera traps, performing surveys to geolocalise individuals and refer them to the location of those tracking a GPS collar) and computer (image analysis) work.


This project is part of a collaboration with The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) to prepare an assessment of invasive species impacts on biodiversity and ecosystem services. The participant will review the scientific literature on the topic and prepare a database with requested information. The successful participant will spend the majority of their time conducting desk-based research and data compilation, but they may also have the opportunity to assist in field work with other researchers in the department.


This project is entitled ‘Ecological implications of commercial bumblebee spill over into natural habitats´. The work will be developed in the framework of project ABEJORROS. This project aims to explore the ecological risks of bumblebee (non-native species) spillover from crops to natural habitats. Intensive field sampling in Cabo de Gata (Almería). At least during one month the student will work sampling pollinators outside greenhouses (natural areas) in Almería (Spain), with further analysis of the samples in Seville.

As part of your placement you will also complete a Level 3 Award in European Community Development accredited by the Learning Resource Network.
