We provide clients with efficient, well-targeted, and technically competent services that benefit sustainable development projects and the conservation management of natural habitats, native species and ecosystem function.

Working throughout Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, offering a wide range of services with strengths across terrestrial, aquatic and marine ecology.  We are experienced in the planning and development sector and work on challenging government funded projects that are located at protected or sensitive locations.

Specific duties to include

  • Supporting the Senior & Project Ecologist(s) in the delivery of a wide range of projects.
  • Assisting with planning and resourcing of ecological surveys and species identification.
  • Contributing to providing sound ecological advice to clients within your areas of expertise.
  • Assisting with producing meticulous and accurate reports for clients on time and within budget.
  • Assisting with data requests, and reporting on data searches.
  • Assisting with data entry and digital mapping.
  • Supporting senior staff in the management and development of client relationships.
  • Assisting with business development, including generating repeat business.

Minimum qualifications

  • Achieve (or expect to achieve) BSc 2(i) in a natural sciences subject or a post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline i.e. zoology, biology, ecology.
  • Proficient in the use of GIS (QGIS).
  • Able to demonstrate keen interest in natural science, ecology/zoology and the natural environment.
  • Able to demonstrate plant, bird, mammal and invertebrate identification skills.
  • Experience of undertaking or assisting with Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs) and extended phase 1 habitat surveys.
  • Familiarity with protected species surveys, including bats, otter, badger, etc.
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge in scoping studies, site selection, site surveys, Ecological impact Assessments (EcIA), Appropriate Assessment Reports and overseeing the implementation of construction mitigation measures (Ecological Clerk of Works).
  • Engaged, enthusiastic and willing to learn.
  • Highly adaptable, flexible and has a “can do” attitude, including ability to work flexible hours and nocturnal surveys.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent written English and good report writing ability.
  • Exceptional planning and organisational skills for your own time and project work.
  • Capable of working under pressure with the ability to meet critical deadlines.
  • Willing to follow instruction, especially in respect of personal safety.
  • Proficiency in standard IT and communication applications is essential, and capabilities in statistical and mapping software are desirable.
  • A good level of physical ability to undertake strenuous survey work in remote locations.
  • Full clean driving licence.
  • Membership of CIEEM or application in-train
