BirdWatch Ireland, on behalf of the Curlew EIP Operational Group (OG) is looking for an Ecological Advisor to assist with the delivery of The Irish Breeding Curlew EIP in South Leitrim, funded by the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine’s, European Innovation Partnership fund.

The project will trial innovative programmes to improve breeding outcomes for Curlew in these areas, including: training farmers in predator control; nest protection through electric fencing; capital works to improve habitats; and a results based measure for Curlew.


The Ecological Advisor will survey and monitor breeding Curlew populations, and nest sites for breeding outcomes. They will carry out site prioritisation and budgetary assessments to determine entry to the schemes; assist in the implementation and administration of the scheme; provide advice and training to participating farmers, and assist in the trial of each of the scheme options.


Candidates are expected to have at least three years experience working on ecological / agricultural projects, proven experience of data management and analysis, report writing and GIS, experience in carrying out breeding wader surveys, managing land for biodiversity and dealing with landowners. They should have the ability to work to deadlines and show strong initiative and problem-solving capabilities.
