A rare opportunity has arisen for a motivated ecologist to join Woodrow (possibly in a senior role for a suitable candidate).  The company’s greatest asset is our staff and this senior ecologist job would be to support our ecologists and manage current work load and support the future growth of the business.

Woodrow is an award-winning environmental consultancy working across the island of Ireland.  We offer a wide-range of ecological services and have a large suite of technologically-advanced field survey equipment.  Currently with a staff of 12, we have 9 ecologists working across different specialisms.  The company’s reputation for high quality professional advice ensures the sustainable advance of infrastructure projects across the island of Ireland in line with legislation and requirements of national wildlife and habitats protection agencies.  As part of the company’s commitment to advancing ecological understanding and best practice, the Company’s founding Director sits on the CIEEM board as Vice-President (Ireland).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To manage technically challenging ecological projects, within budget & specified timeframes.
  • To review and provide quality assurances of ecological reporting and activities.
  • Working with senior management team in project delivery (if senior role offered);
  • Managing & Mentoring less experienced staff;
  • Build & Maintain client relationships;
  • Supporting business development activities.

Normal office hours: 08:45 to 18:00 Monday to Thursday and 08:45 to 13:15 on a Friday.

MAIN SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • An experienced ecologist with at least five year’s work-experience, including within a consultancy role;
  • Experience in a wide range of ecological areas with a specialism in ornithology an advantage;
  • Experience of full project management balancing timeframes and budgets;
  • History of winning and delivering quality-assured ecological projects;
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Knowledge of legislation applicable to Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland;
  • Ability to work on own initiative, to liaise with clients and colleagues, and to meet tight deadlines;
  • Extensive experience to QA and assess ecological requirements.
  • Ability to guide and direct staff under your management.
  • Cognisance of H&S requirements and Staff Wellness Policies

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An honours degree or equivalent in ecology or a related biological / environmental science discipline;
  • Full Membership of CIEEM or application in-train
  • Full, Clean Driving license

DESIRABLE:

  • Chartered status (CEnv or CEcol);
  • A relevant post graduate qualification;
  • Access to own vehicle;
  • Ability to travel.
  • H&S training or Emergency First Aid

The Woodrow Offices (which are to be expanded) are located in the centre of Ballisodare village, Co. Sligo, c. 9km from Sligo Town.  Ballisodare is at the edge of Ballisodare Bay SPA / SAC, a large estuarine area that links to many fantastic beaches and coastal areas to the west and north.  Next door to the offices is a gym with a 22-metre pool.  The office location is ideally located for those who want to enjoy the environment of the North West of Ireland, including hiking, swimming, surfing etc.  County Sligo has much to offer those who love the outdoors, arts, culture and gourmet food.  https://www.lookwest.ie/life/sligo/
