From initial baseline surveys in terrestrial and aquatic environments, to Appropriate Assessment Screenings, Natura Impact Statements, Ecological Impact Assessments, ecological surveys, GIS and oil spill contingency plans, Altemar provides a one-stop professional solution.

Altemar are seeking to recruit 2 ecologists to work in its Greystones, Co. Wicklow office. The successful candidates will have either a minimum of 1-2 years’ or 5+ years’ experience in ecology, depending on the position. The ecologists would work with our existing ecology team on a range of projects within Ireland and UK. Our projects vary from one off housing, to larger housing developments, industrial and marine projects, including fibre optic cable and renewable energy projects in Ireland and UK. The ecologist positions offer potential for significant professional development in a small but dynamic consultancy firm.

What you will be doing in this role:

  • On site surveys of flora, fauna and, depending on discipline, aquatic surveys;
  • Prepare and/or input into Environmental Reports, Appropriate Assessment Reports, Environmental Impact Assessment Reports, Natura Impact Statements and supporting planning applications;
  • Collaboratively working with clients, colleagues, and external consultants;
  • Working day to day with a multi-disciplinary team from the Greystones office or in the field across Ireland;
  • Liaising with County Councils, NPWS, Inland Fisheries Ireland and other statutory bodies as required;
  • Attendance at meetings with clients, project teams and other stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Qualification (Level 8) in Environmental Science, ecology, botany, marine biology, aquatic science or a related subject;
  • A post-graduate degree in ecology, botany or a related discipline is favourable but not required;
  • Proficiency in GIS packages (QGIS or ArcMap);
  • Experience in writing Ecological Impact Assessments, AA Screening reports, Natura Impact Statements and Preliminary Ecological Appraisals;
  • Strong report writing and report preparation skills;
  • Understanding of general engineering principles, ecology impacts and mitigation;
  • Field survey experience in Ireland/UK (mammal, bat, flora);
  • Have a full clean driver’s license and access to vehicle;
  • Strong organisational skills;
  • Clear and confident communication skills;
  • A keen eye for detail;
  • Experience in Ecological Clerk of Works preferable.

  • CIEEM Membership (preferred)
  • Full driving licence (preferred)
