O’Donnell Environmental is an independent ecological and environmental consultancy based in Cork City. We are scaling and growing by providing a high-quality service to a wide range of Clients in both the public and private sectors. We carry out a significant amount of conservation focused work, including the design and implementation of Pollinator Plans, Farm Plans and corporate Biodiversity Action Plans, as well as planning related work (EcIA, EIAR etc.) for renewable energy, commercial, transport and residential projects.

As our business continues to grow, we wish to recruit a Graduate Ecologist. The ideal candidate will have some professional experience, but applications from exceptional recently graduated candidates will be considered. We are seeking someone who is ambitious, who has a passion for ecology and who wants exposure to interesting and exciting projects. The ideal candidate must enjoy the outdoors, as a significant part of your working week will be spent assisting with surveys or with our ongoing conservation projects. The successful Junior Ecologist will have a and enthusiasm for working outdoors in all conditions. Attention to detail and ability to work well in a busy environment (occasionally unsupervised) are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a busy and fast-paced consultancy to help deliver project requirements.
  • Carry out ecological surveys safely and to a high standard.
  • Assist in the analysis and interpretation of data and the preparation of ecological reports, biodiversity action plans etc.

Key Requirements

  • Degree in ecology or relevant environmental discipline.
  • Demonstratable passion for ecology.
  • Enthusiasm for working outdoors in all conditions and at night (e.g. bat surveys) is required.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work well unsupervised.
  • Full, clean driver’s license (company owned car provided for work related travel).
