Nicholas O’Dwyer Ltd. are currently seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and competent Ecologist with at least six years post graduate consultancy/public sector experience to join our growing environmental team. The successful applicant will be working as an integral member of our Environmental Team, based in our Dublin office and will support the expansion of our ecological and environmental services in Ireland and the UK.


The successful candidate will, amongst other things, be responsible for:

  • Providing expert ecological input for a range of projects;
  • Planning and conducting site ecological surveys and fieldwork;
  • Preparation and monitoring of the implementation of Construction Environmental Management Plans and undertaking the role of Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW);
  • Undertaking Appropriate Assessments and the preparation of Screening for Appropriate Assessment reports and Natura Impact Statements;
  • Undertaking Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), Biodiversity Chapters for Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIARs) and other reporting requirements;
  • Perform other duties in relation to general Environmental Consultancy & provide day-to-day assistance and support to the wider Environment Team and assistance to the Engineering Teams, as required;
  • Writing and reviewing technical reports and other deliverables;
  • Input into the preparation of tender bids;
  • Project management and coordination;
  • Liaising with clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience:

We are looking for a Candidate with the following knowledge and experience:

  • A postgraduate degree in ecology or related subject;
  • Full Membership of CIEEM or in the process of achieving same;
  • Specialist experience in aquatic and wetland ecology, with a competence for terrestrial ecology;
  • Excellent ecological field work skills;
  • Detailed knowledge of wildlife and conservation legislation, within Ireland and the UK, including the Habitats Directive and Wildlife Acts;
  • Knowledge and awareness of planning process and policy;
  • Excellent technical report writing skills;
  • GIS experience;
  • Experienced in the preparation and monitoring of the implementation of Construction Environmental Management Plans;
  • Experienced in working in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experienced in stakeholder engagement;
  • Project management and coordinating skills.
